Please make sure all your children's clothing and belongings are labelled as it makes it easier for us to return any lost items and saves us getting in a muddle!
Please could all children bring a water bottle, a coat and their book folder each day.

This term our P.E day is Monday. On Mondays your child must come to school in their PE kit.

We have a library system in class where children can take home books on a daily basis.

Star Challenges
Each week the children are encouraged to complete their 'star challenges' from a range of different areas of learning and they receive a gold star sticker and certificate if they complete these challenges.

This week in Early Years, we have been busy in our garden area, weeding, digging and sweeping. We are now ready to plant some seasonal plants. Reception children have planted some runner beans.
On Tuesday, the children heard the start of their new literacy tree class book, ‘The Extraordinary Gardener’. The children created and described a new flower.
In Maths, we focussed on number bonds to 10 and one less and one more within 10, and we recapped our doubles up to 10. The children have learnt a new doubling song. We focussed on writing the numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10 with the correct formation.
In Singing on Wednesday, we continued to learn our ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ rap and also learnt a new ‘Gingerbread Man’ rap.
In PE, we used hula hoops to spin, roll and skip. We also went out riding bikes and scooters, which was good fun and very tiring!
In RE, we continued to discuss the Easter story. The children built crosses using a variety of construction kits. In our Art and Design work next week, we will be exploring the properties of clay and using a variety of tools to roll, cut and make marks in the clay.

This week in Early Years, we had a very busy superheroes mission centre. The children have
unlocked codes, recorded messages and of course, been on lots of missions!
In Art, the children have designed and painted superhero capes.
In Maths, we have been learning to combine two sets and work out how many we have altogether.
We have recapped our knowledge of comparing amounts, using the language ‘more than’ and ‘less
than’. We have compared lengths and measured the lengths of objects with cubes.
This week, the children in Reception created their own version of the class story ’The Magic
Paintbrush’.
We continued our work on giving instructions and the children created a set of instructions for
washing hands. The children found out how important it is to give clear, detailed instructions to
ensure the task gets completed correctly.
In P.E, we worked on developing our throwing and catching skills using a range of small apparatus.

This week in Early Years, we have had a heart theme in our classroom challenges and provision. The children have printed with heart cutters, made heart collages and our funky finger challenge was to cut out and punch a heart.
This week, the children have been designers! We looked and discussed different packaging for vegetable soup. The children then designed their own food label.
In art, the children have painted representations of a red rose.
In Maths, we have recapped our knowledge about the composition of the numbers 6, 7 and 8. We have been learning to recognise if a number is odd or even in different practical contexts. We have started some new work on doubling.
In singing with May this week, the children have continued to develop their repertoire of songs about the weather and feelings.
In P.E, we have developed our ball control and kicking skills.

This week in Early Years, we talked about the type of weather we like best and the weather we don’t like. The children had the opportunity to make a weather wheel. In class, we have worked on following and giving instructions. The children enjoyed working with a partner to guide them along an obstacle course, whilst being blindfolded, by listening to and following their partner’s instructions. In class, we finished our story ‘The magic paintbrush’. We sequenced the story using 5 pictures. The children then orally retold the story. In Maths, we have identified and made representations of the numbers 6, 7 and 8. We have explored the different compositions of the numbers in a variety of practical contexts. We have recapped our knowledge of ‘one more’ and ‘one less’ within 10. In PHSE, we focussed on friendships and have drawn pictures of our friends. In P.E, we have developed our throwing and catching skills as well as how to control a ball in a variety of ways. We revisited different movement patterns such as hopping, jumping and galloping.

This week in Early Years, we have continued our work on weather and seasons and have explored what happens when water freezes and thaws.
In class, we read some more of our story ‘The magic paintbrush’. We acted out the scene where Shen was in prison and together we discussed ideas about what she might paint that could help her escape.
We had some interesting ideas which included cannons, dinosaurs who would knock the walls down, holes, windows and doors to climb out. We are looking forward to finding out next week what she did paint. Reception children wrote their ideas in a thought bubble.
In Maths, we have focussed on counting and ordering numbers and we
have compared masses.
In P.E, we have continued with our parachute games.
In D&T, we recapped the ingredients needed for vegetable soup and the children designed their own vegetable soup. Next week we will make vegetables soup for snack.
In Phonics, we have continued to learn and revise our letter sounds and the ability to blend sounds in words. Some children have been introduced to the set 1 special friends ‘ng’ and ‘nk’.

This week in Early Years, we have been very busy feeding and identifying garden birds. We took part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch on Thursday and we saw 12 sparrows, 6 blackbirds, 15 pigeons and 1 blue tit. We made bird cake today and will feed this to the birds next week. Throughout the week, we have observed the weather outside and talked about this. We have learnt what a cloud is made from and what falls from the cloud. We have looked at photographs of different types of clouds and named them. In Maths, we focused on showing different amounts on our fingers, recognising dot arrangements and the concept of ‘one more’ and ‘one less’. The children have had lots of opportunities to practice these skills through songs and games in class. In P.E, we played parachute games and we have been learning to work as a team to use the parachute effectively. In D&T, we listened to and recalled the elements from the story ‘The Best Pumpkin Soup’. The class wrote a list of the ingredients which were in the soup. Next week, we will design our own vegetable soup. In Phonics, we continued to learn and revise our letter sounds and the ability to blend sounds in words. Some children have been introduced to the set 1 special friends ‘sh, ch, th and qu’. In our singing lesson, we learnt a new song about the weather and a transport song.

This week in Early Years, we learnt about Diwali, painted Rangoli patterns and drew mehndi hand
patterns.
This week in P.E, we learnt and performed the dance ‘The Five days of Diwali’.
In Maths, we focused on the 2D shapes circles and triangles and have been recognising them in
the environment, learning to talk about their properties and making pictures with the shapes. In
Nursery, we played lots of shape games.
In Art, we made chalk and splatter firework pictures and in Music, we created firework
soundscapes.
On Thursday, we found a string of fairy lights in our classroom which we discovered were there to
keep the ‘night spirits’ out. We generated some questions about things we’d like to find out about
the ‘night spirits’ over the next few weeks. Reception children made a poster to help keep the ‘night
spirits’ out of our class. We will find out more next week when we start to explore our new story
book.
For snack today, we made breadstick sparklers and chocolate firework bark.
We will be sending home a PEEP TDAH every Friday and this week’s task is an ‘I spy numbers’
challenge.

On Monday and Wednesday, the children enjoyed working alongside their families to complete a variety of activities to help support their communication, language, reading and writing skills. A big thank you to all of you who attended! The children have been given a Peep autumn outdoor activity sheet. Please mark in the children’s homework diary if they complete any activities.
Our focused story this week has been ‘The Little Red Hen’. We have listened to the story, sequenced the story, and made bread just like the Little Red Hen did! We used a map of the farmyard to help find different objects or places using simple coordinates.
In Maths, we focused on the concept of ‘one more and one less’. We have used various stories and rhymes to re-enact the one more pattern or one less pattern.
In Music, we learnt a new song, which we sang using Makaton signs.
In PE, the children focused on performing balances. They worked with a partner to make a balance and then practised a pencil roll. This was trickier than it looked!
In Art, the children mixed colours in a zip lock bag to make an orange pumpkin.
On Thursday, the children had a lovely Taekwondo session with Mr P.
Peep Stay and Play sessions
We will be having a Peep Stay and Play session on Monday 21st October at 9 am for Nursery parents and a Peep Stay and Play session on Wednesday 23rd October at 9 am for Reception parents. This is an opportunity for parents to stay and complete activities alongside their child in class, and perhaps get some ideas on how to support your child’s learning at home.
The sessions will last approximately 45 minutes.

On Tuesday this week, Early Years had a fun drama lesson! We created our own version of the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. We then drew a story map to retell the story. I look forward to next week, when we will decide on the ending of our story.
In Maths, we focused on recognising different representations of 1, 2 and 3, and writing the numerals. In Nursery, we sang lots of counting rhymes and have practised counting in order to 10.
Our star challenges this week included designing a witch’s hat, sorting representations of 1, 2 and 3 in the maths area, and using wax strips to make a shape on the funky finger table.
In Music, we have had another lovely singing session with May. In Boogie Beats we had a fun and lively session based around a pumpkin patch and Halloween. The story the children acted out was about an enormous pumpkin!
This week in PE, the children had a great session with Reagan. The children had to work cooperatively to complete building or stacking challenges, as well as individual throwing challenges.
In D&T, we built models from recycled materials. The children had to think of an idea about what to build, consider what resources they needed and then they built their model. A tricky job!
In the role play area, we set up a spooky kitchen, which has been very popular. There has been lots of spell making!

In Circle Time, we identified and talked about different feelings. The children drew feeling faces. We talked about the zones of regulation and the children showed us which zone they are in at different times in the day (Blue zone: sad, tired, poorly. Green
zone: focussed, happy, calm, ready to learn. Yellow zone: excited, silly, restless. Red zone: angry, cross, feeling out of control).
In Maths, we have been focusing on patterns. It has been a week of copying and making patterns with anything we could find –pencils, cubes, natural materials, Lego... the list goes on!
In Art, we focused on making colourful faces, using either felt tips, oil pastels or coloured pencils.
One of our star challenges this week was a leaf hunt in our garden.
In Music, we had another lovely singing session with May. In Boogie Beats, we had a great session using the gym ball to make different rhythms, which represented different types of weather, and a lovely interactive story.
This week in PE, we have been learning to jump accurately over and off apparatus.
For snack on Thursday, the bakers made some tasty jam and lemon curd tarts.

This week in Early Years, we read the ending of our class story ‘Wild Things’. We played Wild Thing hide and seek and used the game to help us construct and sequence simple sentences.
As part of Local History Week, we have learnt about castles. We have learnt new words to describe the parts of castles, looked at photographs of local castles and talked about them. We found out who lived in castles. In class,we built and drew castles.
In Maths, we focused on capacity this week. We started to explore patterns, which we will continue next week.
In Art, we focussed on making observational paintings of pumpkins.
In Music, we had another lovely singing session with May. We sang lots of songs about bodies, feelings, movement and we used signs to sing the song ‘I Can Sing a Rainbow’.
This week in PE, we have been learning to move in a variety of ways and have developed our jumping skills.

In class, we have read books about different homes and talked about our own home.
In maths, we have been focussed on comparing size, length, and mass. The children have undertaken a range of practical tasks to develop their understanding. The children liked being the human scales whereby they demonstrated what an object would look like on the scales. They have started to use the bucket balance scales to find out which objects were heavier or lighter.
In Art, we have printed autumn trees using corks and have explored making patterns using chalks. The children loved colouring the autumn leaves on our class tree using coloured water and the giant pipette droppers.
We have talked about autumn and what the season looks like. We also went on an autumn work around school to look for signs of autumn.
This week in P.E, we have practised our throwing, catching, bouncing and rolling skills. We have been learning to work cooperatively with a partner and to use a ball and bat with some control.

This week in Early Years, we read some more of our story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and we found out that Sam is a stripy scaly wild creature! We looked at the illustration of Sam and described him. We found out that the wild things like to eat apples, apple juice and avocados. In Phonics, Reception children continue to learn to read and write their letter sounds and have practised their oral blending (Fred talk).
In class, we talked about our families. We represented our families using stones and the children shared their family photographs with the class. We have read information books and stories about all different types of families.
In Maths, we focussed on comparing quantities using the vocabulary ‘more’ and ‘fewer’. Reception children have brought home a challenge sheet and it would be great if you could complete one or two of the activities at home, date them on the sheet and return the sheet to class before the 27th September. Nursery children focussed on counting in order up to 10 and counting sets accurately (making sure they touch each object as they count), and have played maths games.
In Design and Technology, we continued to develop our cutting skills.
This week in PE, we practised our throwing, catching, bouncing and rolling skills. On Thursday, we had another lovely Boogie Beats session with Lisa. We did some action rhymes and movement work with our scarves and retold the story of ‘We’re Going On a Bear Hunt’. We ended the session with some songs from the toy box.

This week in early years, we are trying very hard to learn our class
routines. We are getting faster in the mornings putting away all our
belongings and we are trying to help keep our class tidy. Please make
sure your child’s clothing and water bottle are labelled as it makes it
much easier for us to return it to you.
In maths, we have been sorting objects and we have sorted natural
materials, buttons, the children and animals. We have also focussed on
counting accurately and knowing that the last number we say when we
are counting objects, tells us how many we have altogether.
In circle time, we talked about foods we like to eat.
In class, we had a secret visitor called Sam who left his sack behind in
our class. It contained a story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ (which we
started to read), some strawberries, a sock and a sandwich, The
children then drew pictures of objects that began with ‘s’. Today a jungle
appeared in our role play area just like the story. In phonics, Reception
children have been trying hard to learn their letter sounds and orally
blend. Please make sure when you return their letter sheet each day that
it has your child’s name on it.
In design and technology, we have focussed on developing our cutting
skills.
This week in P.E, we have practised our throwing and catching skills. On
Thursday, we had a lovely boogie beats session with Lisa where we did
some action rhymes, retold the story of the gingerbread man and
finished the session using the parachute.
In art we have made marks and patterns with crayons and looked at
different textures outside in the garden. The children made some wax
rubbings. What a busy week!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
