Class 4

Welcome to Class 4!

If you check in on a regular basis you will find out what your child has been learning in class.

Important information:

PE days are on a Wednesday and Friday Children should come in their PE kit and earrings MUST be removed for safety.

Swimming is on a Monday 

A manageable amount of homework will be given out on Thursday and should be returned on a Tuesday.

At Prior Park we inspire a love of reading, therefore your child will have a reading book, as well as a library book, which they will love to share with you on a daily basis. Please sign and date your child's reading record once you have finished. 

Please make sure that all your child's belongings are labelled to prevent anything being muddled up or so that they can be quickly identified if they have gone astray.

In geography we have been exploring and giving justified responses to whether an activity has a high or low level of sustainability

Class 4 has created a range of different structures in D&T and explained what the structure can be used for.

Class 4 have begun their investigation on states of matter. We have set up a simple practical enquiry, using comparative testing.

We were joined today by Mark and Abdhesh from 4wardfutures and Engineering a Sustainable Energy Supply (EaSES) to learn about different career journeys, and how we can develop a sustainable energy generation.

We have been working scientifically to label scientific diagrams and use results from tests to suggest improvements.

We have been taking part in our whole school Internet Safety Day. We have been focussing on the Truth and Lies about Artificial Intelligence and how this affects our use of online activities.

Class 4 have been working as circuit analysts to identify, test and suggest reasons why some circuits don't work using differnet components including, buzzers, switches and motors.

Class 4 have worked together collaboratively as mathematicians to use their fluency and problem solving skills as part of our NSPCC Number day activities.

Class 4 really enjoyed sharing a story with their families as part of national storytelling week

We have loved attending an indoor bowls activity with Berwick Academy to develop accuracy and power. It was great to see some of our former pupils in their leadership roles.

Class 4 have been interpreting both primary and secondary sources of evidence to be able to describe and explain what happened in AD 410 that contributed to the Romans abandoning Britain for ever.

We were joined by the ladies from Brucegate dental practice to discuss the importance of hygeine and also the hidden sugars within our snacks

Class 4 have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the animation workshop delivered by Chloe and Robin in partnership with The Berwick Films and Media Festival.

We have been learning to use a model to explain a crotchet and a quaver in music, as well as recording notation.

We really enjoyed our dodgeball transition activity with Tweedmouth West at Tweedmouth Middle School. Thank you to Hayden and the sports leaders from TMS.

In Science we have been learning about electrical safety and how this links with good and bad conductors.

We have been learning to collaborate and communicate effectively using VEX GO as reporters and builders to create a NASA flagpole using different components.

We were joined by Jaz from the Sikh education centre in Newcastle to learn more about the religion and how this links with our beliefs of tolerance and difference.

We have begun our new enquiry to find out why so many people in the world live in megacities.

Class 4 have worked collaboratively and safely to assemble bird boxes in preparation for the nesting season in Spring.

Class 4 have been developing their sketching techniques to create a 2D to 3D image using shading.

Class 4 have been developing core strength, agility and form as well as following instructions to create a routine in Gymnastics.

'Race to the North Pole' at Berwick Academy

'...Tis the season to be Jolly...Fa La La La La!' We visited the residents at Hillside Lodge to spread joy and happiness and some angelic voices of course!

Class 4 have really enjoyed evaluating, designing and using their technical skills to create a purposeful product. They are certainly worthy of a shelf in Harrods!

Christmas Jumper Day and Santa Dash

Class 4 have been working scientifically to investigate sound. We have created our own musical instruments to demonstrate our understanding of how high and low sounds as well as loud and quiet sounds are created. We measured the volume of sound using dataloggers, so that we could use this data to explain what is happening.

Class 4 have enjoyed participating in 'No Pens Wednesday'. We have been learning to develop speaking and listening skills in all areas of our learning.

Class 4 loved planting bulbs with their families. This gave us the opportunity to discuss thoughts, feelings and beliefs. A fitting end to interfaith week.

Class 4 have been involved in a virtual lesson with the Hancock Museum to learn more about inscriptions, abbreviations and learning to speak in Latin.

Class 4 have been working collaboratively, celebrating successes and using our critical thinking skills through the use of connectors, angle beams, pins and pulleys to make a Robot with Vex Go!

Following on from our visit to the Anne Redpath exhibition at the Granary Gallery, we have immersed ourselves in sketching, pastels and collaging to develop our line, shape, texture, form, composition and perspective. Thank you to our artists Liz, and Justine from the Allanbank art studio.

Class 4 have learnt to play ostinato as well as how to hold and play their violin with a bow.

Class 4 have really enjoyed taking part in Arts week using the sense of sound. We have been collecting sounds to use in our performance poetry, using musical instruments to recreate the sounds, as well as making marks to express how we feel using different thicknesses of pens and watercolours.

Class 4 have used a scientific model to explain the energy transfer between stages of a food chain as well as use scientific language to demonstrate their knowledge and prior learning in Science.

As part of our Design and Technology project about cooking and nutrition, we have learnt to make a basic biscuit by following a simple recipe. We have learnt to cream, mix, combine, measure knead and of course taste our biscuits!

Class 4 have been composing, improvising, singing and performing with Sam and Spike as part of the Berwick Music Sessions. They wrote, created and performed a song relating to The Lindisfarne Gospels.

Class 4 have loved creating their own digestive system to explain the different functions.

Class 4 have been inspired by the work of Barbara Hepworth to carve and create their own.

Class 4 have been learning about The Lindisfarne Gospels as part of our Local History project.

Class 4 have been introduced to their violin and have been practicing their pizzicato with Ms Ord.

Class 4 have been working as mathematicians to flexibly partition numbers using the Make it, see it, write it, say it method.

Class 4 have been developing their balance, agility, throwing and teamwork within their PE by taking part in Multi-Skills challenges.

Class 4 have begun a scientific investigation about teeth. They have been comparing their teeth to others in their class making impressions, as well as identifying, naming and explaining their function.

Class 4 have been inspired by the Artist Magdalene Odundo and her sculpture artwork, to create their own 2D to 3D drawings.

Class 4 really enjoyed becoming engineers, suppliers and builders with their Lego challenges.
