Class 2
Welcome to Class 2!
This is the Class 2 website page. If you check in on a regular basis you will find out what your child has been learning in class.
Who's who in Class 2:

Things that would be really helpful:
Please label all of your child's belongings, this helps to quickly identify any found items and enables us to speedily return them to the appropriate child, if they have been muddled up. Please make sure that your child has a water bottle and a coat, as the weather is so changeable in this area.
Please order your child's lunch in advance, using School Grid so that your child will have a choice.
Weekly timetable:
PE will be on a Tuesday and a Wednesday, children should come to school in their PE kit with their red school jumper and earrings should be removed to ensure safety when participating.
Spelling will be given on a Wednesday. This will give you the opportunity to practice a couple of words a night to be more successful for the spelling check the following Wednesday.
Homework will be sent home on a Friday to share as a family and should be returned on a Monday. Please ensure you have signed your child's homework.

Class 2 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the beach. What a wonderful day filled with terrific teamwork, confident communication and amazing artwork.
Class 2 have worked together as a team to create a map for their beebot. They have been using positional vocabulary and writing instructions for their peers to follow. Well done Class 2!
Class 2 were joined by Charlotte from Buglife and Jenny from Tweed watch to learn more about pollinators. We were able to identify pollinators and not pollinators, audit our garden for microhabitats, create seed bombs and make pollinator pledges on wooden biscuit medals.
Class 2 have completed their sculpture using clay and have decorated their pinch pots
Class 2 have been developing their use of sculpture to use tools to create their own pinch-pot in the style of the Ancient Mesopotamian artisans.
Class 2 have been using a mud mixture to create sculptures inspired by the ancient art of the Mesopotamians.
Camping on the field
Class 2 have been learning about fractions in maths. They have been creating their own fraction exhibition with a mystery exhibit.
In Computing and music Class 2 have been learning to explore that there are patterns in music. We created a rhythm pattern then used an instrument to follow a rhythm pattern. We then used Chrome Music lab to create music using media.
Class 2 have been learning to identify and describe the main elements which make up the weather and understand that weather conditions change from one moment to the next. They accessed BBC weather forecast to investigate and collect data.
Well done to all the children in Class 2 that 'Blinged' their bike.
Class 2 have begun their letters and fact files to support their bid for their Heritage Hero award in partnership with The Union Chain Bridge Project
In Geography Class 2 have been using their observations to identify, compare and contrast homes in Kampong Ayer compared with their own.
Class 2 travelled to The Union Chain Bridge to learn more about our local history and become heritage heroes.
Class 2 received a letter from the materials scientists from the Tour de France asking for our help to select materials and design a cycling top for the cyclists.
Class 2 have been enjoying the lovely weather and learning to ride their bikes safely.
We were joined this week by Amanda and Miles from the Great North Air Ambulance to learn more about why it's so important that we have this extremely important resource in our area.
Class 2 have really enjoyed their visit to the Lifeboat Station at Carr Rock in Spittal. We learnt all about water safety and how to stay safe, especially important as we live in a coastal town. We also enjoyed learning all about the current lifeboat used to rescue people who are lost or injured at sea.
Class 2 have loved their learning about the Coronation, particularly the family picnic.
Class 2 are learning about plants in science this term. to develop our understanding of different plants and how to care for them, we visited our local garden centre at Homebase.
Class 2 have been working scientifically to classify, identify and investigate seeds.
Class 2 have been inspired by researching the constellations and have created some of their own. The used a pin to make the holes in a disc of paper and shone a torch behind the disc using a darkened box to view their creation.
Class 2 were enthralled by the space rocks activity and the planetarium experience delivered by our astronomers Fin and Adam from the Kielder Observatory.
Class 2 had the opportunity to ask two trainee astronauts some questions about space this week. Paul the astronaut and trainee astronaut Alyssa Carson
The Open the Book Team came to visit us during assembly to interactively read us the bible story 'The Last Supper' .
Class 2 have begun their investigation to answer the big question, Which material would be best for keeping an astronaut warm in space?
It was delightful to see so many parents at our science workshop. Thank you for your support and good luck with any further investigations!
Happy Mothers Day from Class 2!
Class 2 have been using their knowledge of shape, and fine motor skills to cut, fold, thread and tie in the design and making process of their wonderful Mothers Day cards.
Class 2 have been creating their own artwork inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldi's 'Spring' artwork.
Class 2 have been working scientifically to identify, investigate and collect data about microhabitats in our local area using simple equipment.
Class 2 have been learning to program with Scratch Jr. We have been learning to increase speed and change direction using the coding blocks.
Class 2 have all become members of the Berwick library! Where and what adventures will your book take you on?
Class 2 were inspired by our interactive storyteller Carol who came to visit us for World Book Day.
Class 2 loved sharing stories with the adults who came to taste and devour the texts at our book Café this morning.
Class 2 have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to handle and move with the ball in rugby with Dougie Hall.

Class 2 are extremely grateful for the very generous donation of Fairtrade products from Mr Shennan the Manager of the COOP.
Class 2 have really enjoyed learning about where in the world our food comes from as well as, the meaning of Fairtrade with Sally from Field to Fork at The Hirsel. We discovered that the Fairtrade Federation supports farmers and workers to receive a fair price for their produce that is imported from around the world. We also made oat, banana and choc chip cookies with Fairtrade produce.
Class 2 have really enjoyed learning to sew using a running stitch to join fabrics to make a pouch, as well as, attach embellishments.
Class 2 have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in their last session about the botanist Margaret Rebecca Dickinson with our local artist Anna Chapman.
In PE w completed another Commando Joe's mission. We thoroughly enjoyed navigating our way with impaired vision, through the imaginary smoke linked to our learning in History about the Great Fire of London.
Class 2 really enjoyed our Bible story from the Open the Book Team about 'The Big Spender'. Teaching us about the importance of forgiveness and how it is important to remember that we all make mistakes, we just need to learn from them.
In science we have been used our scientific research to help create a diorama that explains how living things depend on each other in particular habitats.
In Design and Technology we have been learning to use a template to cut fabric, thread a needle and sew a running stitch to join fabrics together to make a purposeful product.
In maths we have been learning to identify shapes, count sides and vertices and problem solve.

Class 2 have participated in Children's mental health week. They have observed and identified many ways in which we are the same and different to each other but still connected in some way with Choices 4 Growth.

What a wonderful world...
In Music we have been learning to play the glockenspiel to accompany our vocalists. We also experimented with the tempo.
In science we have been suggesting ideas to investigate from our observations of microhabitats in our school grounds.
In computing we have been learning to program a character to grow and shrink
Class 2 have been developing their golf skills with our coach Jack. They have been learning to use their club to drive the ball over the bench.
Class 2 thoroughly enjoyed meeting the firefighters from Blue Watch who taught us about the role of the firefighter, fire safety and even allowed us to view the fire engine and use the firehose. Perhaps we may see many of our current pupils as firefighters in the future!
Class 2 have been building on their learning about sewing a running stitch, by pinning templates to fabric and cutting out their pattern in preparation for joining them in their next D&T lesson. I do believe there could be some tailors and dressmakers in the future...

Class 2 have enjoyed their Commando Joes mission to discuss and create a safe pathway across a burning city, linked to our learning in History about The Great Fire of London.
Class 2 have been learning to identify if something is alive by using life processes, as well as, classifying and grouping by difference similarity or change to identify things that are alive, once been alive and have never been alive.
Class 2 have completed a mission based around Samuel Pepys and the event that took place in 1666. The children worked cooperatively and collaboratively, using equipment to design and create a method to put out a fire.
Class 2 have been learning to sew a running stitch. They have successfully threaded a needle and sewn a stitch to join fabrics.
Class 2 have enjoyed their PE sessions with Jack and Regan. They have been developing their putting skills in golf, judging distance and the correct pressure to hit the ball, as well as, learning to communicate effectively and work as part of a team in a Commando Joes challenge.

Class 2 had a magnificent lunch that was worthy of Michelin star standard! We are most grateful to our catering staff and all the adults who served us.
Class 2 have really went over and above with their extra challenge this week to support the biodiversity in our school grounds. Some children from Class 2 have designed and created their own bird feeders, from recycled items, to support nature in the winter months.
Class 2 really enjoyed taking part in the Prayer spaces provided by the Open the Book Team. We were learning more about the Christmas story and how this relates to our lives now.
Class 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Granary Gallery to view the wonderful exhibition of botanical paintings by Margaret Rebecca Dickinson. We have been inspired by her work and now we would like to try on a scientific role as a Botanist.

Class 2 have been developing their balance, coordination and core strength through Gymnastics with Katherine this week.
Class 2 are very proud to be part of the whole school effort to receive the Gold award for School Games.

Class 2 have been developing their Design and technology by evaluating existing products and using recycled fabric to make a bag for someone to carry shopping.
Class 2 have joined the whole school in raising awareness of climate change by taking part in 'Green Jumper' day. By wearing a jumper we were able to turn down the heating and save energy, helping to save our natural resources.
Class 2 have been working scientifically to investigate ways in which objects can be changed. The children recorded their results in a table then used the data to answer questions.
Class 2 have been part of the Open the Book team's assembly to learn about 'The Special Promise'
Class 2 have been learning to identify the length of phrases in music and discuss tempo using the vocabulary adagio (slow) and allegro (fast).
Class 2 have enjoyed looking for signs of autumn in our school grounds to use in our artwork. We then compared items and discussed in sentences, why we had chosen them.

Class 2 really enjoyed performing their prayers and poems as well as, using their soulful voices in their harvest assembly. It was delightful to see so many families joining us again!

Class 2 have been learning about our local heroine Grace Darling. We have been getting in role as Grace and her family to retell her life story and help us write a diary entry.
