Welcome to the Class 4 page.
I hope you find the information useful.
P.E. days in Class 4 are Mondays and Wednesdays. Children should come to school in their school P.E. kit of red t-shirt and black shorts. Swimming will be on a Tuesday. The children need their swimming suit/trunks with a towel and goggles in a bag, not a big back pack please.
Earrings should not be worn on P.E. or swimming days.
Spellings will be given out on a Friday for the test on the following Friday. Homework will also be given out on a Friday and must be handed in on Thursday of the following week.
It is still important that children read their guided reading books each night and for parents/ guardians to date and sign the record book.
Times tables should be practised regularly.
Please do not hesitate to speak to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Staff in Class 4
Class Teacher: Miss Cowin
Classroom Assistant: Mrs Farnaby
As part of our Local Geography study, Class 4 looked at the three bridges in Berwick.
We went on a walk to look at the similarities and differences.
Class 4 had an amazing time in the inflatable Planetarium.
They looked in awe at the night sky. They saw the constellations, followed by pictures of the constellations projected onto the star constellations.
They saw the journey the ISS goes on orbiting the Earth.
They gasped at the close up of the moon.
Back in class with Finn, the astronomer from the Kielder Observatory, Class 4 ordered the planets.
Using models, Class 4 acted out how the Earth orbits the Sun while rotating on its axis. The moon orbits the Earth at the same time. We talked about how this makes the year and day and night.
We said a goodbye to Miss Short and we wish her the very best in her new job. We welcome Mrs Farnaby to Class 4 on some afternoons.
In our Design and Technology lessons we taste tested some single layer biscuits. Some were too sweet and some too dry. We then designed our own biscuits. We had to decide what to add to the biscuits to make them more appealing. We added dried fruit or chocolate chips. We all wanted to decorate our biscuits with icing. We then designed the labels for the bags.
We discussed how you can't just sell biscuits for the price of the ingredients. You have to think about cost of electricity, time taken to make the biscuits and profit.
We began our Sound topic by find out how sound travels. We used string tied around forks. The ends of the string was held to our ears. We then tapped the fork against different materials and worked out how the sound travelled through the medium of the string into our ears. We found that tapping the fork against metal made the clearest sound. We look forward to learning more about sound.
Making our Roman mosaics. We used painted dried pasta sheets which we then broke up to make the small tesserae tiles. We then created our own mosaic patterns.
In science we found some food chains. Food chains start with the producer, usually a plant. However a consumer can also be prey or a predator.
Class 4 had a lovely 'Prayer Spaces' session with the 'Open the Book' Team. They looked at different parts of the Christmas story, talked about how the people in the story might have felt at that special time. They thought about how they feel at Christmas and about others in their own families.
On Wednesdays for the next few weeks we will be doing some dance and movement with Chloe. We had a great time in our first session and worked well together in groups. We made up dances to reflect sunrise to sunset,
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
