Welcome to Class 3's Web Page
We hope you enjoy finding out what we have been learning in class.
Staff in Class 3:

Please make sure your child brings their water bottle, book bag, reading book and reading record daily.
PE days are Wednesday and Friday, your child should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please ensure earrings are taken out on these days.
Swimming will be starting on Mondays- more information to follow.

Key Stage 2 Cricket Festival
With help from Mrs Dickson Class 3 designed and followed recipes to make food for a picnic to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Cricket with Mr Croser
We worked with a geologist, Dr Ian Kille at Cocklawburn beach to learn more about rocks and fossils. We identified and measured different fossils. We also travelled back in time to the beginning of the earth forming, learning about different points of time in between.
As part of Geography week we completed the Lowry Trail.
We looked at various different maps and images of our local landscape to identify our town's key human and physical features.
In art we are learning about impressionism
Mr Skippy came to teach us some new skipping skills in preparation for the festival in July.
Exploring magnets using the terms attract and repel. We also identified the north and south poles.
We identified the strongest part of the magnet by showing a magnetic field. We also sorted magnetic and non magnetic objects. We also used non fiction books to research and extend our knowledge. We now know the 3 types of metal which are attracted to magnets.
Mrs Bridgewater from Primary Stars has delivered 5 match fit sessions teaching us how to keep our minds and bodies healthy.

In Design Technology our aim is to produce a well balanced picnic for the Queens Jubilee. We have begun tasting traditional British foods and evaluating their nutritional value.
British Science week- The theme this year was 'Growth'. Staff from the Chain Bridge Project came and taught us how to be botanists and ecologists. We also made our own mini eco-systems and observed the change daily. On Red Nose Day we were science superheroes. We also took part in the science week competition and we made mini gardens for the Easter Bunny. In addition we explored how we can develop a growth mindset.

We used crayons to demonstrate how sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks are formed.

We created a feelings tree and inspired others by writing positive thoughts
NSPCC Number Day
We sorted rocks based on their appearance and investigated the properties of different rocks.
National Story Telling Week- We enjoyed sharing our favourite stories with our friends.
Stone Age tool recreations a stone harpoon tip and a hand flint axe.
Kielder Observatory astronomers came and delivered a light workshop and a space rock workshop.
In computing we have used the paint software create an image and save our work.
This pupil in Class 3 had a bake sale in school to raise money for her dance school. She managed to raise £75, what an amazing effort.
We are able represent in different ways when multiplying and dividing.
We described different kinds of rocks and used a rock identifier app to help us name them.
We explored techniques L S Lowry uses in his paintings and researched the artist himself.

We created actions and phrases to help us remember the seven nutrients our bodies need and what those nutrients do for us.

We went on an Autumn walk around school. While recapping seasonal change we also collected natural materials for our artwork. We used a mixture of natural and recyclable materials to create a collage inspired by the artist Megan Coyle.

The circus came to Class 3. We are now very excited to read our Power of Reading book for this half term. The title is 'Leon and the place between'
