Reception Class 2020 - 2021
Welcome to our class page. Please look at this page regularly and you will be able to see what the children
in Reception Class have been learning about and the fun they have been having. This is also where you can access your child's home learning. Every week I will put up a timetable for you to follow at home. Work packs can be collected from school tomorrow which will have everything you need to access the home learning on the timetable. You then need to complete the work at home and hand it back to school on Friday and the collect the following week's work. Please get in touch with school if you have any questions or need any further help.
Reception Class have enjoyed keeping fit this week and taken part in lots of physical activities. They especially enjoyed the obstacle course and had to use all their agility skills to complete the course in the fastest time possible. The class have also been thinking about different activities to keep us active in a minute. They have been noticing the effect exercise has on our bodies and how it makes us feel.
In Reception Class we have also been looking after our vegetable plants this week and we were very excited to find peas on our pea plant and carrots. We hoping more peas and carrots will grow so we can all try them.
Reception Class have also enjoyed painting some pictures for Hillside Lodge. We talked about the kinds of paintings we thought the residents of Hillside Lodge would like and decided they would probably like bright and cheery. Six paintings were chosen to be taken to Hillside Lodge and we hope the residents will enjoy looking at them. You can see the paintings and children who painted them below.
Reception Class have continued to enjoy taking part in the ‘Dough Disco’ every day and we are hoping by strengthening our hands and developing our fine and gross motor skills, our handwriting will improve. This week because the children were so good at doubling, they have been learning to share and divide quantities of objects. Sharing fairly is tricky but the children have been making sure that they share equally.
Eating the right food is so important and in Reception Class we have been thinking about what makes a healthy diet and the good things we should eat. We have also tried a range of foods, we have tried poppadums from India, pain au chocolats from France, sushi from Japan and haggis from Scotland. Some food we liked and some we did not!
Next week, it is our Sports Day on Tuesday and all the children in Reception Class have been practising hard. There are photos below so you can see us practising our races and working hard this week.
This week Reception have been enjoying the sunshine and fresh air on their bikes and there are lots of photos on the website for you to see. Mr Hodgson has also been working with the class and practising their athletic skills in preparation for our class sports day, more information on this will follow. In number, we have been learning to double numbers and we are whizzes at this. Try asking your child to double a number between 0 and 5 at home and beyond if they find this too easy.
This week staff in Reception took part in ‘Dough Disco’ training, it was a lot of fun and the children are now taking part daily in a ‘Dough Disco’ in class, to help improve their fine and gross motor skills. Reception Class now have PE on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please also remember to give your child a water bottle every day.

Zoo lab have been to visit today, we all loved seeing and handling all the different creatures. We also learnt so much about all the creatures we saw. It was a brilliant experience!
We are waiting for our caterpillars to change and we are looking forward to them changing into butterflies. We have been looking at butterflies and noticing how their wings are symmetrical and looking for other lines of symmetry.
Everybody has made their very own stick creature based on the story of 'Stanley's Stick' by John Hegley.
This week we have been thinking about lots of different things; our local area, growing up, teen numbers and sticks!
